4 Simple Ways to Prepare for Your Best Thanksgiving

There are a lot of details that go into hosting a Thanksgiving gathering: the place settings, timing the food just right, pies galore, a clean house, and the all-important turkey. No pressure!

Careful planning and preparation will make it an enjoyable day for you and your guests. My goal is to be twiddling my thumbs waiting for guests to arrive. So let’s make it yours as well. Here's how....

1. Clean the Fridge

A clean fridge is a great place to start. A week or two ahead of time, throw out expired condiments and leftovers growing who-knows-what. Wipe down the sticky shelves and create a clean space for the coming attractions. It's a great way to prepare for storing your holiday feast and that big boy turkey.

2. Pull Out Special Items in Advance

Get ahead by pulling out the roasting pan for the turkey and any special bakeware or servingware days ahead. Pull out the special linens you plan to use, and press and fold them so they are ready for the table. This will help make your day go smoothly.

You could also get the family to help with some of the preparation. Thanksgiving is about giving. Everyone feels better when they get involved.

3. Set the Table Ahead of Time

It's so rewarding to have the table set the night before Thanksgiving. You'll find that it's like creating a piece of art. Use artichokes, leaves, and pears to create a centerpiece around a fresh mum plant. You can do the same with any fruits, vegetables, or foliage you might have on hand. It's much more enjoyable when you're not rushing to do this Thanksgiving morning.

I also love to bake pumpkin muffins and wrap them in saran tied with jute. Then, I cut fall-colored construction paper place cards to tie on and alleviate chaos when it's time to sit down for the Thanksgiving feast.

4. Create a Self-Serve Center

Choose a room away from the kitchen to set up appetizers and drinks. In our home, I use my sunroom to encourage guests to mingle away from the kitchen, where we are swiftly making last-minute preparations. I suggest moving any counter seating out of the kitchen and into another room to discourage guests from crowding the kitchen.

Final Thanksgiving Tip

My final tip? Start dreaming of your ideal Thanksgiving Day right now. What can you do right now to make the day go more smoothly? Make a list, and chip away at it. You could even create a Pinterest Board for inspiration. Then, pick and choose what ideas are achievable and affordable for you. It doesn't have to be elaborate to be special. Be resourceful, and most of all, be prepared so that you can enjoy the day as much as your guests.

Until next time, I am wishing you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving!

Warmly,
Celeste
