The 4 Best Reasons to Bring Live Plants into Your Home

Do you have a green thumb?

The good news is that you don’t have to have a green thumb to enjoy live plants in your home. You may be deciding between live or faux plants for your space, but don’t let a live plant’s upkeep intimidate you. There are tons of options when it comes to living plants in your home.

Why should you add live plants to your home?

Live plants are an opportunity to add texture and softness to your home in a natural way. Whenever my clients are open to them, I utilize them to finish off a space. It's the finishing touch that will refine your area.

Today I’m giving you the 4 best reasons you should add live plants to your home. Let’s go!

1. Greenery Creates a Calm Atmosphere

Live plants are instant air purifiers. They convert carbon dioxide into new oxygen and help purify the air. For instance, an aloe plant in an 8-10" pot will purify 100 square feet.

The aloe plant is one of my favorites because it's easy to maintain and does a super job of cleaning the air. And when your home is full of clean air, it brings a relaxing and refreshing atmosphere that will make your house a home.

2. Live Plants Add Color to Your Space

We all crave the vibrant greens of the spring and summer months. Adding live plants to your home can offer a little bit of that throughout the year. Consider orchids or Christmas cactus that can rebloom with proper care.

Add plants with color in places like on an entryway table, a bookshelf, or a coffee table. When the sun shines on these areas with a colorful plant, it adds a beautiful playfulness to your space.

3. Nurturing Plants can be Therapeutic

The benefits of house plants go far beyond the visual & purifying effects. Nurturing and cultivating house plants is highly therapeutic for the body and soul. Getting your hands in the dirt is a powerful medicine for healing.

Teaching children to care for plants is a beautiful gift. Teach them how to water plants, how often and why plants are beneficial to you and your family. It’s a great way to teach responsibility and educate them on the benefits of plants.

Best Plants for Beginners

I love to use orchids and African violets in bathrooms where you get indirect light. Knowing how to water them is key. A few ice cubes added to the pot 7-10 days for orchids is ideal.

When you water African Violets, water them from the bottom by placing them in a shallow sink of water when the soil is dry.

Some of my favorite green plants are aloe vera, just lightly water once the soil is completely dry. I also like snake plants, known as a mother-in-law tongue ( I slightly resent that ;) this is another excellent air purifier.
