4 Tips to Get Organized for The Holiday Season

We're quickly closing in on the end of another year, which makes it the perfect time to sort out the season before the holiday rush! With everyone's to-do lists mounting and the countdown to 2025 ticking away, it's not uncommon for many to ask if it really is, "the most wonderful time of the year" or "the most stressful time of the year."

Let's unpack some quick organization tips to aid in making your home's transition into the holiday months more peaceful and enjoyable.

Tip #1: Visualize Your Ideal Holiday

In your "perfect world" what would your holiday experience feel like this year? Is it a well-decorated home ready to show off all season? Purchasing and wrapping all your gifts for loved ones early? Perhaps it's going through your closets and kids’ toys to donate and make room for the new to come?

Whatever your end goal, embrace it by strategically planning. Give yourself ten to fifteen minutes to make a list or two to pin down all of those swirling thoughts. This way, you'll be able to start checking things off your list and visually see the progress you're making as you go.

Tip #2: Forget the Frustrations

My next tip may be easier said than done, but forget the frustrations. You might be thinking, "But Celeste, I need twenty of me to get everything done in time." Close your eyes and visualize the holidays last year; try to remember what made it most frustrating? Was it that you were waiting until the last minute to start shopping? Were you grasping at straws trying to get ideas for everyone on your list? Were you overwhelmed by clutter around your home?

Once you're able to address specifics of what stole bits of your holiday cheer, you'll be able to target tasks to help keep you more organized and, if possible, delegate to alleviate some of the pressure.

Tip #3: Schedule Out Your Holiday Plan

Create routines, focus on decluttering, and schedule the upcoming season. I suggest working backwards; start with small projects and gradually reduce the "mountain" of tasks that are unavoidable. This might look like organizing your home's "junk-drawer" first and then moving on to your kids’ playroom. The greatest thing about taking back control is deciding what takes priority and what you’re going to make time for.

Tip #4: Call in the Experts

While it may be a beautiful time for giving and mindfulness, the holidays are not for the faint of heart. Remember to be patient and kind to yourself. Treat yourself to that gingerbread latte and take small breaks to relax and enjoy the moment. Try to set realistic expectations. If your holiday checklist or time frame feels overwhelming, you can always reach out to the professionals.
