3 Ways to Design Your Home for Wellness
Your home should be a welcoming retreat from the moment you step through your front door. This feeling could be created with natural aromatic fragrances, soft touches, fresh plants, paint colors, or simply by organizing for daily peace of mind, similar to creating a home with positive energy.
Below, I’m sharing 3 ways to incorporate wellness into your home design. Let these recommendations guide you, but remember, what's important is that your home promotes whatever speaks to you.
1. Become Inspired by Nature
Nature is a wonderful design element to incorporate into your home. By adding fresh greenery, crystals, water, organic elements, and making the most of your home's natural light, you can improve your health and wellbeing.
Among other wonderful benefits, plants help to remove toxins from the air, lower stress and anxiety, add moisture into the air, and boost your mood. Adding organic elements such as wood, stone, and wicker can also help to promote healing, enhance creativity, and elevate productivity.
2. Create a Functional, Personalized Flow
A wellness-inspired home is organized and easy to maintain. It has natural lighting, fluent color palettes, organic touches, and fresh air quality. The best part is that it should be non-invasive to your daily routine! When everything has a purpose and a place, and you are maximizing your home's elements, you will experience improvements in sleep, relationships, stress, productivity, and overall health.
Think about your daily routine. Are there items that could be moved to make it easier? Furniture rearranged? Start with one room at a time and see how you can make it work even better for you.
3. Immerse Yourself in a Sensory Experience
Wellness is a multi-sensory experience and your home should reflect this. I like to think of a spa and how its environment can impact my entire mood. Similarly, consider how your senses can be more positively cultivated in your home. How is your air quality? Do you have any biophilic (nature-inspired) elements? Are you making the most of your natural light? What does your home sound like? What does your home smell like? Once you've taken these elements into consideration, you should be able to answer the question, "Do I have a wellness-inspired home?" Yes.
